World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is an annual 18-24 November global campaign. 2024s theme is Educate. Advocate. Act Now.
Bacteria, fungi, and parasites are evolving to resist the antimicrobials that were developed to kill them. The primary cause of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is the misuse/overuse, excessive and inappropriate use of antimicrobials.
Incredibly, New Zealand continues to operate outside of its own 2017 AMR Action Plan guidelines1 which called for national human and in animal health standards, and coordinated surveillance programme of antimicrobial drug use.2
Unbelievably, New Zealand prescribers are still not required to record the reason for an antimicrobial prescription, and do not have national AMR prescribing guidelines…3
despite the fact that hospitals in the Te Manawa Taki region continue to experience an outbreak of the AMR bacterium vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE), which was first detected in 2022…4
and rates of carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPO) - resistant to all commonly used antibiotics including carbapenem antibiotics reserved for severe (life-threatening) infections - are rapidly increasing…5
also New Zealand classified gonorrhoea as a notifiable disease in 2017…6
and almost every child has had antibiotics by the time they are five years old...7

Promising Research Horizons: The TCIH’s Contribution to Tackling AMR in Europe
This Thursday November 22, EUROCAM is hosting a free webinar8 discussing the role of Traditional and Complementary Integrative Healthcare (TCIH) in addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The exemplary Prof Dr Esther van der Werf of the Homeopathy Research Institute9 (and International Academy of Classical Homeopathy (IACH) diplomate10 ) is presenting on The scientific status of TCIH for the prevention and treatment of Infection: Evidence of High-Quality Studies.

Acute Otitis Media Systematic Review
This project led by Prof Dr Esther van der Werf aims to assess the effectiveness of homeopathy for Acute Otitis Media (AOM) in terms of both symptom relief and reduced antibiotic consumption through investigating the peer-reviewed literature of both individualised and non-individualised homeopathy in AOM. One of the most common infections experienced in the community and managed in primary care, AOM is the most common reason for antibiotic prescribing in children worldwide.11

Homeopathy & the rising tide of AMR

Homeopathy, Athletes, & AMR
'The nature of our remedies is that different kinds of stress produce different symptomatology, while each remedy can be said to be sensitive to a particular kind of stress.’ Professor George Vithoulkas on Baryta carbonicum
Homeopathy & recurrent urinary tract infections
Half of all women experience at least one Urinary tract infection (UTI) before 32 years of age.
Homeopathy & Infections
Antimicrobial Awareness Week has been ‘rebranded’ as World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) this year, with the theme of Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together.

‘In contrast to frequent claims, the available MAs of homoeopathy in placebo-controlled randomised trials for any indication show significant positive effects beyond placebo. Compared to other medical interventions, the quality of evidence for efficacy of homoeopathy was similar or higher than for 90% of interventions across medicine.12 Accordingly, the efficacy evidence from placebo-controlled randomised trials provides no justification for regulatory or political actions against homoeopathy in health-care systems.’13

Also the use of hand sanitisers don't help. The effect of these products is known to adversely affect the body's natural microbiome and indirectly lower fertility.
Interesting point about gonorrhoea. I think a similar thing is going on in Australia with syphilis. If people receive multiple courses of AB for these diseases, we're sure to see a rise in acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
Viruses are also microbes!
