Homeopathy & the Defense system
Self-similarity in complex systems is key to future research and systemic healing
The human being is a self-organizing complex adaptive system of interconnected networks maintaining life via making constant non-linear dynamic changes on multiple levels concurrently. The defense system exists physically and psychologically within the human being, having the simple goal of preserving life as best as possible.1
The defence system is continually trying to drive away harmful influences in its own unique way – it is via this individuality that a disease picture of a particular human being is derived, through each symptom which in turn must be analyzed for its origin, character, and modalities. Aside from the pathological picture of the disease common to all sufferers, it is this individual picture that when matched to the one homeopathic medicine proven to produce these specific peculiarities in its proving data, and subsequently administered, augments the efforts of the defence system facilitating return to health.
The effort of the defense system to overcome diseased states is highly individualized and is comprised of idiosyncrasies in the disposition of the person and modalities of the symptoms. This is the basic understanding in homeopathy, the principle upon which the treatment is understood and designed.2
It is crucial to note here that homeopathy does not supply deficient hormones nor directly influence the organs in any way, rather homeopathy supports our inherent defense systems to overcome pathologies.3 While this is a clinical observation, many case reports from the International Academy of Classical Homeopathy4 published by reputable medical journals support this idea - indicating the need for further investigation into the mode of action of homeopathic medicines.
The exact mechanism by which homeopathic medicines act remains elusive with clinical effect the only way to gauge its action for now. However, as physics evolves and the science of the nonmaterial expands, the mechanisms of action of homeopathy may finally be explained in the not too distant future.56
Dr. Iris Bell concludes ‘Every homeopathic medicine is a complex nano-scale system involving multiple inter-connected, interacting components, and emergent properties. Simillimum individualization derives from formation of a unique personalized protein corona shell adsorbed to the reactive surface of the homeopathic nano-structures on contact with the recipient's body fluids. Low doses of such complex nano-structures initiate the adaptive processes of hormesis to mobilize endogenous healing of a disease state. The capacity for self-organization and self-similarity in complex systems is the key to future research on the nature of homeopathic medicines and systemic healing during individualized homeopathic treatment.’7
