Homeopathy & Acute respiratory infection
PART THREE in an ongoing, seven year case study of homeopathic prescribing in chronic disease
Classical homeopathy outlines the process whereby a single homeopathic medicine is chosen based on the totality of signs and symptoms of an individual, that is concomitant conditions and psychological features, feelings etc., all inform the individualized prescription.1
The homeopathic Medicine Genius (the drug which covers the entire symptomatology of the Epidemic Genius - the set of frequent symptoms in a population affected by an epidemic2) for ‘COVID19-like symptoms’ was suggested in 2021 to be Cinchona officinalis,3 supported by Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry analysis showing Cinchona officinalis phytoconstituents are similar to hydroxychloroquine which significantly inhibits SARS-CoV-2 in vitro,4
However, a 2023 retrospective observational study of three hundred and sixty cases of ‘COVID19-like symptoms’ found no single remedy emerged as the Medicine Genius.5 Cinchona officinalis did not feature among the commonly prescribed homeopathic medicines for ‘COVID19-like symptoms.’
