Homeopathy & theory in practice
Acute inflammatory states & chronic conditions
The whole system of homoeopathy is based mainly upon the principle that overcoming disease may be accomplished by drugs capable of producing, in a healthy individual, similar symptoms to those of the disease to be treated.1
This is the therapeutic similitude principle aka like with like.
Validated philosophy & theory is fundamental to the science of homeopathy and its ultimate respect for the individual.
+
A recent theory introduced to homeopathy by Vithoulkas and Carlino in 2010 is The ‘‘continuum’’ of a unified theory of diseases.2
This theory proposed that:
a return of acute inflammatory states with high fever is a predictor of improvement in chronic diseases during individualised homoeopathy treatment.
+
+
Building on the continuum theory, during 2024, the paper Association between Acute and Chronic Inflammatory States: A Case- Control Study3 was published.
This paper, retrospectively sampling forty reports of chronic inflammatory conditions having at least six months of follow-ups from homoeopathic medical practices worldwide, found:
‘ the chronic inflammatory disease patients were able to put up acute inflammatory response with fever only around the time they showed clinical improvement in their chronic condition. The cases that did not improve rarely showed any acute inflammatory response with fever. ’
+
Typically, absence of fever = absence of vitality.4
To know established theory provides understanding and expectation of outcomes !
(The book Levels of Health is highly recommended for all prescribing homeopaths.)

The authors, also, in 2023, highlighted implications of the routine use of antipyretics to control fever during infections5 and, as this mostly involves over-the-counter drugs without medical advice - undertook their 2024 systematic review Long-term health effects of antipyretic drug use in the aging population,6 which was inconclusive.
This research was spearheaded by the indominable Dr. Seema Mahesh.
+
The most recent contribution from Dr. Seema Mahesh has been published just in time for World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 20257 with its theme “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.”
The Direction of global health status: a narrative review and recommendation for incorporating integrative medicine for improvement8 concludes that as the infections of today are more serious and cannot be eradicated as easily - there is the need for a paradigm shift to a higher standard of individualized care.

The insights of Professor George Vithoulkas are important for mankind.
Here is another example;9
‘‘ The human organism is the most complex entity that exists in our planet. The electrochemical reactions and mechanisms that take place within it, in health and disease, are so complex and interdependent that it is impossible at this stage of evolution of science for a human mind to understand and control such mechanism. ’’
‘In contrast to frequent claims, the available MAs of homoeopathy in placebo-controlled randomised trials for any indication show significant positive effects beyond placebo. Compared to other medical interventions, the quality of evidence for efficacy of homoeopathy was similar or higher than for 90% of interventions across medicine.10 Accordingly, the efficacy evidence from placebo-controlled randomised trials provides no justification for regulatory or political actions against homoeopathy in health-care systems.’11

I have appreciated Vithoulkas' definition health when I first heard it in 1978...but I have a nuanced view of health on an emotional level. Rather than "freedom from passion..." to "freedom WITH passion...in a dynamic state of serenity and calm."
It is not that having emotion is any problem...but being attached to an emotion or reflexively having the same emotion is the problem. To me, having varied emotion depending upon the situation can be wonderfully healthy...and so, rather than "freedom from emotion" I prefer "freedom WITH emotion."
Does anyone else appreciate this subtle but important difference.
